Lacie G. Newton
I received my BS in Biology from Millsaps College in 2016. While at Millsaps I really enjoyed taking summer field courses focused on the biology, evolution, and ecology of arachnids, which led me to joining the Bond lab to explore evolutionary processes influencing speciation in trapdoor spider taxa. Specifically, my current research interests include speciation pattern and process, species delimitation, character evolution, and phylogeography of the trapdoor spider genus Aptostichus. In addition to research, I also volunteer for GOALS (Girls’ Outdoor Adventure in Leadership and Science) and the ESTEME undergraduate mentoring program where I advise undergraduates in underrepresented groups about navigating issues for first-generation students as well as offer my own point-of-view about pursuing a career in a STEM field as a queer woman.
